 Several hundred additional police were sent to Central Sulawesi, in order to prevent more religious violence. There are now about 2,200 police on the island. Islamic radicals have been trying to organize militias to run Christians out of Indonesia. This usually means killing the Christians. But this has proven difficult, because the Christians have formed their own militias. The government blames the Islamic radical activity on al Qaeda, via a the local group Jemaah Islamiyah.
