China: July 19, 2005


  Chinese officials have admitted that they want to obtain foreign military technology, rather than trying to develop the latest stuff in China. This is a very practical approach to closing the gap between what China has (a lot of stuff based on tech that is several decades out of date), and what it needs to compete with potential foes like America, Japan, Taiwan, India or Russia. China also uses the stolen technology to help develop Chinese production capabilities for the newer stuff.
