After controlling the Chinese city of Macau for 443 years, Portugal turned it (and it's population of 450,000) over to China. Like Hong Kong, Macau will be able to operate under its own rules for fifty years, before becoming a fully integrated part of China. Only 1,500 Portuguese are left, although there are another 15,000 people of mixed Chinese and Portuguese ancestry.
