Uzbek troops have planted mines along Tajik-Uzbekistan border in an effort to halt the movement of Islamic fundamentalists. So far, the casualties have been Uzbek civilians and Tajik border guards who wandered across the unmarked frontier. Three civilians and three Tajik troops have been killed recently. The fundamentalists have been keeping a low profile.
