Marines in Iraq were again reminded how important demolitions are. Time and again, the Marines captured large quantities of enemy weapons, ammunition and armored vehicles. Lacking the manpower to guard this stuff, or evacuate it, the marines had to destroy it. The best way to do this was with military explosives. There are effective ways to use explosives to quickly destroy captured material, and the marines often found that there was no one at hand who had taken that particular training course. No doubt, the demolitions courses will be given more often in the future, and there will be no shortage of riflemen volunteering to take it.
