May 28, 2006: Russia's armed forces of about 1.1 million troops are suffering about 1,000 deaths a year (from accidents, suicide and combat in Chechnya). Actually, about half the deaths are occurring in Chechnya, but most of them are from suicide and accidents, not combat.
