The Army suspended artillery fire at Fort Lewis, Washington, for two weeks in March so that the state capital dome (which cracked during the earthquake in late February) could be reinforced. Workers at the capital said they noticed shaking in the structure as artillery was fired only 11 miles away. Firing resumed after the structure was reinforced.--Stephen V Cole
