Yemen: Terrorist Death Squads Publish Their Hit List

Archives

September 15, 2010: Al Qaeda is trying to survive a government military operation in Abyan province. Soldiers and police are searching for al Qaeda members, weapons and anything else the terrorists might have (like incriminating documents.) Gun battles and sniping are common, but the search process is slow and deliberate. The terrorists are trying to persuade local tribes to rise up against the government. Many tribesmen don't want to participate in another civil war, as there have been several of those in the last few decades.

September 14, 2010: Saudi Arabia is increasing aid to thousands of Saudis, who were driven from their homes near the Yemen border by fighting in Yemen late last year. Over 110 Saudi soldiers and police were killed in the fighting, and thousands of additional troops were moved to the border. The refugees complained of poor living conditions in the refugee camps. The Saudi government does not like the bad publicity.

September 13, 2010: Al Qaeda attempted to bomb a gas pipeline, but failed. There was some damage, but production continued. This pipeline only came into production in the last year, carrying natural gas to the coast, where it is exported.

September 12, 2010: In the south, a separatist demonstration turned violent and two soldiers were shot and wounded.

September 10, 2010: Al Qaeda released a list of 55 policemen in the southern province of Abyan, and said the policemen would be killed. This is an attempt to intimidate the police in Abyan, which has long been a main base for al Qaeda in Yemen.

September 9, 2010: In Abyan province, gunmen attacked some soldiers, killing one of them and wounding three.
