Little Bombs Going Off Everywhere

October 14, 2007: The government is lifting martial law (and lots of army patrols and checkpoints) in 11 of 35 provinces. The reason given to keeping it in the rest of the country is illegal drug dealing, which is still a major national problem. Meanwhile, the generals running the government declined to take any action against neighboring Myanmar (Burma) for the recent crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators. No surprise there, but Thai border police reported a bomb went off in a Myanmar tourist resort that is just across the border.

October 9, 2007: In the south, a police raid resulted in a gun battle, that left five Islamic terrorists dead. One terrorist escaped. Locals had reported the terrorists to the police, which explains the increasing Islamic terrorist attacks on Moslems. Many of the southern Moslems are not happy with the Islamic extremists, especially the campaign to shut down schools.

October 7, 2007:  A small bomb went off outside army headquarters in the capital. There were no casualties, and this was seen as related to opposition to the military dictatorship, not Islamic terrorists.
