Many Sinhalese on Sri Lanka oppose the Norwegian brokered peace deal with the Tamil rebels. The Sinhalese feel making a deal with the Tamils will lead to the partition of Sri Lanka. There are 14 million Sinhalese on the island, and 3.2 million Tamils. Some 65,000 have died in the nine years of fighting. Over 1.6 million people have become refugees as they fled the fighting.
