The government is now confident that it can hold the Jaffna peninsula. New weapons, especially multi-barrel rocket launchers and warplanes (from Israel and other nations) have apparently helped to turn the tide. There has also been a reshuffle in the high command of the army, with many commanders being removed and younger, more able ones promoted.
