Somalia: August 16, 2005


The UN believes that nearly a million Somalis are in need of food assistance. This will be difficult to deliver, as pirates still threaten ships bringing in food and other assistance. One ship has been seized by the pirates, and UN attempts to negotiate the release of the crew, the ship and the 850 tons of rice it carried, have so far failed.
