The U.S. sent a special representative (retired Marine Corps general Anthony Zinni) to Israel to see about getting peace talks going between Israel and the Palestinians. Israel insists on seven days of no violence. The Palestinians are willing to start talking without any preconditions. Most Palestinians back continued violence against Israel.
