The US has sent the Palestinian Authority riot control equipment (500 each of riot clubs and helmets.) Israel has refused Palestinian requests to supply the equipment. The Palestinian Authority police are being much more vigorous in putting down unrest. The US announced that it supported a Palestinian State and this has also put pressure on the Palestinians to calm things down so negotiations can proceed.
