The government announced that, for the first time, it had a uranium mine in operation and would soon be processing the uranium ore into nuclear fuel for the atomic power plants being built with Russian assistance. Initially, this power plant would use nuclear fuel supplied by Russia. The Russian plant is to be completed later in the year. The US fears that Iran will use this plant to produce bomb grade nuclear material for building nuclear weapons.
