The head of the Revolutionary Guard has threatened action against any newspapers that "insult" the Revolutionary Guard. Brigadier General Rahim Safavi said that he meant legal action, not mobs of armed paramilitary troops as was used against student demonstrators in early July. But on the same day a security officer was reported killed in a shootout in eastern Iran, Islamic vigilantes beat a know dissident and students suspected of participation in last months demonstrations are still being arrested.
