Despite the continued violence in Aceh, with 34 dead and 72 injured during three weeks of "truce", the government and rebel negotiators are ready to extend the truce. The negotiations over autonomy have stumbled over the demand of many rebels for independence. The government is not willing to budge on that. In central Java, 5,000 Moslems demonstrated in favor of imposing Sharia (Islamic) law.
