Near the Venezuelan border, the army and air force have detected and interrupted a FARC attack on the coastal town of  Puerto Inirida. FARC wanted to hit the town, and it's 13,000 inhabitants, as revenge for the capture of a senior FARC leader in Venezuela. About 400 FARC fighters had been assembled for the operation, but air force bombers hit the rebels as they assembled for their attack. Soldiers then moved in to pursue the shattered rebel units. Another FARC attack in the northwest left two soldiers dead and seven wounded.
