In southern Colombia, FARC rebels made a dawn attack on a military base, killing 14 marines and wounding 25. The FARC attack was meant to seize control of a nearby town, which, in turn, controlled local river traffic. The FARC attack failed, and the fleeing rebels were attacked by bombers and helicopter gunships.
