  The AUC began a unilateral truce and asked for peace talks with the government. AUC began as a self-defense organization, to protect ranchers and businesses from extortion and theft by FARC and other leftist rebel groups. But AUC, like the leftists, have begun to depend on drug gangs for income. AUC says it's willing to try and break the drug connection.
