The story begins with the failure of several senior military officers to a attend a reception for an Islamist parliamentary leader because the leaders wife wore an Islamic-type veil. Kemal Ataturk tasked the military with defending the Turkish republic and Turkeys secular political institutions. It turns out leaders from some secular parties also failed to attend.
