Balkan yo-yo politics in action: on December 26 Greeces Foreign Minister Georges Papandreou sent an open letter to the Turkish people that said Greece and Turkey have the moral duty and the historical responsibility to future generations to build a peaceful future, free from the conflict and the mistrust of the past." On December 27, Turkey issued a statement that said Greek Air Force fighter aircraft had violated Turkish Aegean airspace six times in a three week period. Turkish aircraft intercepted the Greek overflights. The flights occurred near the town of Datca.
