Greece and Turkey, despite recent jousting over Cyprus, signed what is regarded as a key agreement on how to handle illegal immigrants into Turkey and Greece. Many illegal immigrants use Turkey and Greece as a waypoint for entry into Europe. Greece and Turkey also signed another agreement on mutual aid during natural disasters (such as earthquakes). Turkey says it stopped 94,000 illegal immigrants in 2000.
