Japan has decided to buy new aerial tankers (its first) based on Boeing-767 airframes. This is the same airframe as the Japanese AWACS planes, simplifying support for the airframes. Japan had avoided buying tankers for decades out of fear that other Asian nations would consider it an offensive move.--Stephen V Cole
