The use of the carrier Kitty Hawk by US Army Green Berets in the Afghan War has sparked interest in having a ship designed for this purpose. Several options are under consideration:

@ keep the retiring carrier Constellation in reserve for use by special forces.

@ convert a merchant ship into a permanent special operations platform.

@ create a set of pre-packed containers that could be quickly stacked on a containership, converting it into a special operations platform.

@ convert one of the Navy's amphibious ships for special operations use.--Stephen V Cole
