Uganda: February 28, 2002

Looks like the rumors of an impending Ugandan Army raid into Sudan were accurate. Uganda announced that its troops were conducting an incursion into south Sudan to pursue LRA rebels who have launched attacks in northern Uganda. The official Ugandan press release also added Khartoum was briefed. This suggests an okay from the Sudanese government, which has said it no longer supports the LRA. Apparently, an LRA rebel group attacked a Ugandan government facility in Kitgum district (northern Uganda).
