A U.S. anti-narcotics reconnaissance aircraft (a two engine C-7 Caribou), with two Colombians and five Americans on board, was reported missing. A few days later, the wreckage was found. The aircraft had apparently flown into a mountain during overcast conditions common to the region. The reconnaissance aircraft was used to monitor rebel radio communications and its loss removes a vital weapon in the campaign against the rebels.
