Indonesian authorities in North Sulawesi province have offered Lembe Island as a place that a foreign country could build a space launching base. The island is near the equator, where the Earth's rotation would give boosters extra lift. Several Indonesian provinces are offering some of their territory for use as a spaceport, seeking $1 billion in investments.--Stephen V Cole
