On December 10 the Kenyan government said Kenyan police arrested a Muslim cleric in the of Mandera (northern Kenya near the Somali border). A Kenyan newspaper reported that the cleric and 18 other Kenyans had possible links to Osama Bin Laden. The Kenyan report said the Kenyan police were cooperating with the US FBI. The Kenyan government, however, insisted the police had arrested only one man, Sheikh Ahmed Hassan Mursal, who allegedly runs an Islamic orphanage in the area. On December 12, however, Muslim demonstrators attack a Roman Catholic church in Mandera and destroyed it. A subsequent report said several people were injured in the demonstration and attack.
