Sudan has been unusually forthcoming to US intelligence officials about information on al Qaeda members who are, or have been, operating in Sudan. While Sudan says it has offered such data for years in a bid to get off of the US list of terrorist-sponsoring nations, the CIA says that only after 11 September did the offered files contain any useful information.Stephen V Cole
