About the only territory controlled by RUF is the town of  Boidu, and the surrounding territory between the borders of Liberia and and Guinea. The RUF rebels, and rebels from Liberia and Guinea, have long used the area as a base for raiding in all three countries. Troops from Guinea and Liberia sometimes cross the border into Sierra Leone to fight the various rebels. UN peacekeepers are not eager to enter this area.
