The UN has announced that the disarmament of RUF rebels in the Kono district (where most of the diamonds are) was on schedule for completion on August 17th. The complete disarmament is supposed to be done by August 30th. There are an estimated 30,000 armed men out in the bush, but only about 15,000 have presented themselves and their weapons so far.
