Some one hundred UN troops surrounded the home of RUF leader Foday Sankoh.  Via a cell phone, Sankoh told the media that UN troops had killed six of his men and that the UN soldiers had been killed as they tried to disarm RUF men by force. . 

May 3 , 2000; UN peacekeepers clashed with armed RUF rebels. Seven Indian and Kenyan UN troops were killed and 49 taken prisoner (including six UN civilians). The incident took place at a disarmament camp 140 kilometers northeast of the capital. Over 10,000 RUF rebels refuse to disarm without receiving more money. A smaller number of AFRC junta troops, who formerly fought the RUF, also refuse to disarm.
