Maoist rebels are now demanding that tourists they come across pay up to $14 each for special "passes." Attacking the tourist industry is not popular, as it is a major source of income for many Nepalese. But the Maoists believe that by damaging the economy of one of the poorest countries in Asia, they will drive more people to support them.
