The government has accused the LTTE rebels of Sri Lanka of providing training for Napalese Maoist rebels. The government did not provide conclusive evidence, although the two rebel movements have publicly provided verbal support for each other in the past.

The army battled rebels 280 kilometers west of the capital. As many as a hundred rebels have been killed, as well as seven soldiers. In other operations, 38 rebels have been killed in the last three days.
