UN Peacekeepers have been able to stop the fighting, but have not always been able to restore peace. Crime is rampant. Much of the theft is food and personal possessions. There are fights over this, resulting in injuries, and sometimes death. There are some more bizarre incidents. In southeastern Liberia, local religious practices have gotten out of hand, and at least six people have been murdered as part of black magic rituals. Peacekeepers have had to protect people accused to participating in the rituals. In many parts of Africa, people are accused, and often attacked, because of participation in black magic rituals, or religious practices that involve cursing, or killing, people.
