In the northeast, major fighting broke out between LURD and MODEL rebels. Lesser fighting takes place daily throughout the country, but this is usually just posturing and use of firearms to punctuate verbal disagreements over loot. Many of the government and rebel troops still have to steal food to live, and this often leads to violence because there is not enough to go around.
