For two days, fighting between the army and LURD rebels for control of the provincial capital of Gbarnga has led to the government forces retreating to the outskirts of the town. At least 20,000 refugees are fleeing the fighting 160 kilometers from the capital. The defense minister is said to be personally supervising the army operations in Gbarnga.
