  The US has warned American citizens to steer clear of Liberia in light of the fighting and civil disorder. Non-essential American diplomatic personnel have been withdrawn from Liberia. Because of Liberian involvement in the illegal diamond trade for Sierra Leonian rebels, the US has also restricted issuing visas for Liberian government officials and family members wanting to travel to America.
