The UN again singled out Liberia as the major conduit of illegal diamonds from Sierra Leone. In particular, Liberian president Charles Taylor was accused of personally benefiting from this trade. Liberia said the illegal trade had been going on since the 1950s and demanded hard evidence against Taylor.
