North Korea imported 472,167 tons of oil from China in 2002,  579,000 tons in 2001 and 389,000 tons in 2000. In some cases, North Korea has sold electricity back to China. This is mainly because the electricity distribution system in North Korea has been allowed to fall apart (due to lack of investment and maintenance).
