A US pilot reported seeing an Iraqi SAM fired across the border in the direction of an AWACS aircraft flying over Saudi Arabia. If true, this would be the second time the Iraqis have taken a shot at US radar aircraft. The likelihood of Iraqi SAMs actually hitting anything this way is remote. But apparently the Iraqis feel they have little to lose and much to gain by trying. American radar aircraft have powerful electronic defenses and the Iraqi SAMs are apparently fired somewhat blindly.
