In Kashmir, rebel violence left 11 dead. 

In Assam, in northeast India, police foiled a rebel attempt to blow up a large oil storage facility. Local villagers tipped the police off. A gun battle ensued, the rebels got away, but several weapons and explosives were captured. In the same area, five rebels belonging to other tribal rebel organizations surrendered.
