 The former head of the national police under deposed president Aristide, Rudy Therassan,  was convicted, in the United State, of drug smuggling in Haiti. Therassan pled guilty, and his testimony helped convict 13 other former Aristide officials. The corrupt Haitian officials worked with Colombian drug organizations to move cocaine into the United States via Haiti.
