  The government reported that so far this year, right wing (AUC) rebels have killed 1,596 civilians while left wing rebels have killed 1,693. No mention was made of civilians killed by government troops. Many of the civilians were killed in the crossfire, but others were murdered by one faction or another because the civilians were suspected of supporting the wrong group.
