For the first time in modern history, there was a peaceful change in the Chinese leadership. The new head man in China is Hu Jintao. However, his predecessor, Jiang Zemin, retains an important position as head of the military committee. Moreover, most of the new senior positions in the government were given to men long associated with Jiang.
