China has announced a crackdown on an estimated 154,000 unlicensed Internet cafes nationwide. Police have been ordered to spend July and August checking for illegal Internet cafe's and shutting them down. Many of these illegal operations already pay bribes to local police to stay open. It will be interesting to see how effective the police are in carrying out the government order. The national police are generally considered inefficient and corrupt.
