Taiwan's president has, for the first time, said that a "one China" policy would be something Taiwan could live with. This makes it more likely that China and Taiwan could begin talks on their relationship. China has always refused to talk directly with Taiwan until Taiwan signed on to the "one China" concept. Taiwan has already pointed out that "one China" is subject to a wide variety of interpretations, but at least it moves the process forward.
