More diamond war in Angola. Several sources report UNITA guerrillas struck the town of Chingufo (near Dundo, in eastern Angola). UNITA is trying to secure control of Lunda Norte province, a major diamond-producing region. One western source reported 50 people were killed in the UNITA raid, but did not specify how many were civilians and how many were Angolan (MPLA) security personnel. Dundo is a major headquarters for the Angolan governments diamond production company, ENDIAMO.
