Logistics: Egypt Gets More Het

Archives

November 22, 2009: Egypt is buying 44 American M1070 HET (Heavy Equipment Transporters), for about $462,000 each. These are 42 ton semi-trailers that can haul a trailer carrying up to 70 tons. Their main job is hauling M-1 tanks long distances. But HETs can also carry supplies, and often do. But Egypt has over a thousand U.S. M-1 tanks, and sometimes has to move them long distances. Egypt already has over 300 M1070s, as well as 450 of the older M911 HET vehicles. The M911s wear out more quickly when hauling the heavier M-1 tanks. The M911s are used to haul the 2,500 older U.S. M-60 and Russian tanks.
